‘What An Honor KC:’ Tech N9ne Awarded Proclamation By Kansas City Mayor

The Strange Music rapper reacted to the news via his social media.

Tech N9ne got some hometown love as he was awarded with a proclamation in Kansas City, Mo. by Mayor Quinton Lucas on Friday (Dec. 1).

According to the Kansas City Star, the Strange Music artist is the first rapper to receive such a distinction from the city.

“This is a milestone and what it means for my legacy is that we’re going in the right direction,” he told the newspaper. “It is a beautiful thing. The younger generation will see that Tech N9ne got to do something like this, and they know it is in their reach.”

On Instagram, Tech explained what the proclamation includes and some of what went down at the event.

“Yesterday! 1. Mayor @quinton_lucas put on one of my @chiefs @strangemusicinc @prostandard and @nfl collaboration jackets and read my PROCLAMATION CERTIFICATE to me. [mind blown emoji],” he captioned an Instagram post, alongside a video montage featuring pictures from the ceremony.

“2. I went up to tell my story in speech style within 3 minutes. 3. The wonderful and respectful City council members gave me some really kind words of their own and shook every one of their hands with gratitude,” he added. “4.I posed with my PROCLAMATION CERTIFICATE then with my partner @strangemusicceo then another with him my uncle Ike and my friend and colleague who hooked this whole thing up @seantylerkc and I had the pleasure of congratulating the @east_kcps boys soccer team on their WIN. WHAT AN HONOR KC! THANK YOU!”

The jackets Tech mentioned are the product of a collaboration between Strange Music and the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs to release two limited-edition jackets and a T-shirt, which will be available for purchase beginning Dec. 9 exclusively at the Pro Shop at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

“I am beside myself,” Tech said to The Star. “That red jacket I had on ‘Good Morning America’ is our collaboration with the Chiefs and the NFL, and they said they have never done this kind of collaboration with an artist.”
