Former EPA Chief Lisa Jackson Lands at Apple

Former EPA administrator Lisa Jackson will serve as vice president for environmental initiatives at Apple.

Former Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson has landed a new gig. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced Tuesday that Jackson will serve as the corporation's vice president for environmental initiatives. He broke the news at The Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital conference in California.

"Apple has shown how innovation can drive real progress by removing toxics from its products, incorporating renewable energy in its data center plans, and continually raising the bar for energy efficiency in the electronics industry,” Jackson said in an email to Politico written on her iPhone.

Jackson, who was appointed by President Obama to serve as the EPA's first African-American administrator, announced late last year plans to step down. Throughout her tenure she battled Republicans in Congress and industry over what they described as "job-killing regulations."

Last year, Apple received low marks on energy efficiency from the environmental group Greenpeace. The corporation later announced plans to run its data centers on solar, wind or geothermal energy.

“I look forward to helping support and promote these efforts, as well as leading new ones in the future aimed at protecting the environment," Jackson told Politico.
