Homeless Single Dad Receives $34K in Donations After Sharing His Story in Viral Video
It's amazing how the Internet can transform someone's life for the better. James Moss is a perfect example of this. The single dad was given a second chance to provide a stable life for himself and his son after a video of him sharing his story went viral.
More than $34,000 donations have poured in through GoFundMe for Moss set up by a woman who was moved by his story this past week.
Leon Logothetis, who created #GoBeKind, a random acts of kindness campaign, stopped Moss on the streets of Denver and asked him about his journey. The father shared that he had just moved to Denver from New York City to provide a better environment for his son and an apartment and job he had arranged fell through.
"It seemed like everything I was trying to do was falling apart,” Moss said.
Tears fell from Moss's eyes before Logothetis thanked him for being open and offered him $1,000 and a hotel room for a week. The clip has more than 700,000 views.
Then a woman named Kayla Heskett took things a step forward by setting up a GoFundMe account to raise money for Moss. The father has a job working at a barber shop but was still living in a shelter at the time the fundraiser began last Tuesday.
Moss says he is still in shock in a video he posted Saturday. "I'm so thankful and so grateful for every one of you guys that put your prayers out for us and donated what you could. I love you all. You mean the most to me," he said.
