During the height of R. Kelly’s early 2000s child pornography scandal, Dave Chappelle, a comedian who never really gave a f**k, created three sketches—“Piss on You,” its remix, and “Celebrity Trial Jury Selection” — for his iconic eponymous show on Comedy Central. “Piss on You,” to the tune of Robert’s “Feelin’ on Yo Booty,” and the “Piss on You (Remix),” to the tune of “Ignition (Remix),” are parodies mocking Robert about urinating and defecating on his sexual victims, who were most likely aged between 14-17, as seen in Surviving R. Kelly. “Celebrity Trial Jury Selection” portrays Chappelle spurting “digital urine” onto a prosecutor defending the disgraced Chicago singer.

As one of the many ways Robert’s salacious allegations spilled over into pop culture, some fans were outraged over Chappelle poking jabs at such a disturbing crime. The Chappelle Show’s co-creator Neal Brennan sat with The Breakfast Club to discuss the show and its skits, almost two decades later. “I don’t think people understand what comedy is supposed to do. We will observe things, we will make fun of things. Did people want us to round up a posse and go arrest R. Kelly? Like, what were we supposed to do?” he said.
