We’re just one week away from the Soul Train Awards 2022, hosted by comedian and actor Deon Cole, and we can’t wait to celebrate a night of soul and r&b. And in honor of the highly anticipated event slated to be filled with soulful performances and surprise guest appearances. Of course, with big wins and acceptance speeches, we’re sure to stay with well after the party is over.
This year, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter H.E.R. earned a nomination for ‘Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.’ The “Damage” songbird is up against several talented acts, including SZA, Tems, Mary J. Blige, and many more. Ahead of this year’s show, we’re dusting off the records, revamping our playlists, and getting to know our nominees better. Check out three times H.E.R. got it right with these sizzling r&b tracks.
‘Come Through’ ft. Chris Brown
H.E.R. tapped veteran r&b Chris Brown for this April 2021 slow jam “Come Through,” the fourth single from her debut studio effort Back of My Mind. The pair co-wrote the lyrics, which find the two singing about wanting to link up with their lover. Cardiak, Mike Will Made It, and Mr. Wu10 took over production. The track peaked at number 16 on Billboard’s Rhythmic charts and 23 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
'Damage'
Another standout track from her debut project, “Damage,” was written by the songwriter alongside Ant Clemons, Carl McCormick, Tiara Thomas, and the legendary Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, while Cardiak and Jeff "Gitty" Gitelman produced. The record samples Herb Alpert's iconic 1987 song "Making Love in the Rain.” The singer earned two Grammy nominations for the song ’Best R&B Song’ and ‘Best R&B Performance.’
‘Comfortable’
‘Comfortable’ is the last track to appear on the album for the motion picture romance The Photograph featuring hit series creator Issa Rae and Academy Award-nominated actor LaKeith Stanfield.
The Soul Train Awards 2022 premieres Saturday, November 26 at 8 pm ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
