Bo Jackson Covers Funeral Expenses For Uvalde Victims

"I don't know a soul there,” he said. “It just touched me."

Multi-sports star Bo Jackson has reportedly covered all funeral expenses for the families of the victims of the Uvalde, Texas school massacre.

CNN reports that Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement that Jackson provided the funds "so they would have one less thing to worry about as they grieved."

Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin told the news network that Jackson flew in and presented a check for $170,000 to Abbott, who praised the Heisman Trophy winner for his donation.

"Uvalde is a town that sticks in your mind. Just the name," Jackson said in providing the donation, according to PEOPLE. "I don't know a soul there. It just touched me."

"The true spirit of our nation is Americans lifting up one another in times of need and hardship," Abbott said in a statement, according to CNN. "We are truly grateful for the generosity of Texans and Americans like Bo Jackson, who have stepped up to help in the aftermath of the shooting at Robb Elementary School. When we asked people to support the Uvalde community in the days after, Bo did not hesitate in reaching out to my office to offer his help to the grieving families."

Jackson played football and baseball at Auburn University before playing in the NFL and MLB.

In May, a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, killing 19 children and two adults. The Texas House investigative committee probing the massacre outlines in a preliminary report that there were a series of failures by multiple law enforcement agencies.
