HBCU Week Foundation Announces Eighth Annual Event in Delaware

Its second HBCU Week College Fair will occur at Walt Disney World Resort.

On Wednesday (Sept. 18), the HBCU Week Foundation, dedicated to supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), announced its eighth annual HBCU Week in Wilmington, DE, presented by AstraZeneca, running from Sept. 22 to Sept. 29. Additionally, the Foundation will host its second HBCU Week College Fair at Walt Disney World Resort, presented by The Sallie Mae Fund, on Oct. 23 to Oct. 24.

"The HBCU Week Foundation is deeply appreciative of the unwavering support from the City of Wilmington (DE), Walt Disney World Resort, and our HBCU Week Wilmington (DE) Presenting Sponsor, AstraZeneca and our College Fair Presenting Sponsor The Sallie Mae Fund," HBCU Week Foundation founder Ashley Christopher said. "Their commitment to providing high school students with access to the nation's largest college fair is truly invaluable. Together, we are fostering a future where talented students can pursue their dreams of higher education at HBCUs without the burden of financial constraints."

According to a press release, HBCU Week in Wilmington will feature a vibrant, week-long schedule designed for high school and middle school students. The event begins with a gospel brunch and a 5K run sponsored by Kellogg. Students can explore college options during a middle school tour, enjoy entertainment at an HBCU concert, and gain insights from an HBCU Experience panel discussion. The week also includes a lively block party, the thrilling HBCU Battle of the Bands, and an informative HBCU College Fair, both presented by The Sallie Mae Fund.

The HBCU Week College Fair at Walt Disney World Resort promises prospective students an exciting and immersive experience. With over 40 HBCU representatives, attendees can receive on-the-spot admissions and scholarships. The fair will also feature appearances by popular Disney characters, live entertainment, and music, creating unforgettable moments unique to The Most Magical Place on Earth.

“AstraZeneca is honored to help support young people as they pursue their dreams of higher education,” Andy Wirths, AstraZeneca SVP, Supply Americas, added. “We are proud to partner with the HBCU Week Foundation to champion opportunities for students from all backgrounds to access a quality education, and we are excited to be a part of this important effort.”

“HBCUs play a critical role in supporting and advancing diversity in higher education and continue to open doors for students from traditionally underserved communities,” said Nicolas Jafarieh, Executive Vice President, Sallie Mae and Chair of The Sallie Mae Fund. “We’re pleased to again partner with HBCU Week to connect more students to scholarships, free tools, and resources to help them access and complete higher education.”
