Woman Found Pushing Dead Toddler in Swing
A young mother in La Plata, Maryland was taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation this weekend after local police found her pushing her dead 3-year-old son on a swing, WJLA reports.
The woman, said to be 24-years-old, was found in a Maryland park on Friday morning (May 22) after neighbors called the police, telling authorities that it seemed she had been pushing the swing for an abnormally long period of time.
Officers arrived and found that the boy had been dead for at least several hours, sheriff’s spokeswoman Diane Richardson said. The woman was hospitalized for a medical evaluation.
The cause of the child’s death is not yet known, but the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said that the 3-year-old's body did not show signs of trauma, and the state medical examiner would perform an autopsy.
An investigation is underway as to how to child died and what role, if any, the woman played in his death. “We have a lot of work to do to try to figure out what happened to this child,” Richardson said, adding that, at this time, no arrest warrant has been issued.
