Lizzo Declares Herself the ‘Beauty Standard’ in New Post
Lizzo is dabbling in a little self-empowerment.
In a candid video posted to her Instagram account on Saturday, April 15, the “2 Be Loved,” singer who was spotted wearing a gray robe, gave fans an update about her day before telling them, "I just finished showering and doing my little routine, and you know what I realized, I am f**king gorgeous.” The Grammy Award-winning songwriter proudly added, “I am the beauty standard. Catch up, b**ch!"
Lizzo captioned the post, “I’m sorry that my perfect face & rockin body offends you… I can’t help that I’m God’s favorite.”
Fans flooded the comment section with more words of affirmation, including an online supporter who wrote, “Keep up the body positivity!! You are legit gorgeous and have the most beautiful skin I have ever seen. Your face glows without makeup, it’s miraculous!! Your positivity will always win against their negativity.”
The “Juice” singer has often spoken out about problematic beauty standards and has long been an advocate for self-acceptance with tracks like “Good as Hell” and “About Damn Time.”
In a lengthy post earlier this year, Lizzo declared that "discourse around bodies is officially tired."
"Are we OK? Do you see the delusion? Do we realize that artists are not here to fit into your beauty standards?” she said at the time. “Artists are here to make art," she continued before adding, "And this body is art."
Lizzo recently celebrated her Star Wars debut as The Duchess in the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, and so far, the reception has been nothing but positive remarks.
