KJ Smith and Skyh Black Tie the Knot in All White in Malibu
KJ Smith and Skyh Black are now married!
On Sunday (September 3), the actors jumped the broom in perfect harmony at The Malibu Dream Resort for what Smith dubbed "The Black Experience." 150 close family and friends, including Smith's Sistas, co-stars Crystal Renee, Ebony Obsidian, and Novi Brown, along with the show's creator and executive producer, Tyler Perry, witnessed the nuptials that took over a year to plan. According to PEOPLE, their wedding was a dream come true that paid homage to their ancestry and the location of their first date.
Their love story dates back to January 2021 and includes them working on Sistas together. They got engaged in December of that year and have been inseparable since.
"Our last name is Black, so we always use it as a play on words,” Black told the publication. "We’re from the South and we have these traditions that are very near and dear to our hearts that our parents and grandparents have shared. Our wedding is an homage to our ancestors with some elegant moments we’ve curated and loved as a couple...And it was better than I imagined."
Smith revealed that having a big wedding was not always what she wanted and would have been happy eloping on a mountain, but her mind changed during the planning process.
"It turned into a very large wedding ceremony and I’m really happy we decided to do this because we were able to experience it with our family and friends. And we were able to get loved on and give love. Our wedding ceremony was a gift to our friends and family,” she explained.
Although their guests wore variations of black, the lovebirds donned all-white ensembles designed by Black designers. The bride rocked a custom Alonuko gown by Oluwagbemisola Okunlola Designers, while the groom leaned into his fashionable side for a bespoke creation by Brandon Gray of Grayscale.
The reception kicked off in high gear, with the couple singing together. Later in the night, Smith performed an upbeat, sexy dance routine alongside two backup dancers in front of her hubby.
"I wanted to get lost in my bride because this was the beginning of our legacy, and I wanted those memories to last until my last day on earth,” said Black.
