Donald Trump Really Believes Barack Obama Wiretapped His Phone Lines Before The Election

"This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!" he wrote on Twitter.

For a guy who yells, “fake news!” a lot, you’d think he’d try to be the one who’s honest and “tells it like it is” right?

  • Well, that isn't Donald Trump and not the world we live in right now. Alt-facts are a real thing (actually they’re not) and Trump and his team will deploy them in order to distract the public from something really scandalous going on behind closed doors.

This morning (March 4) the president tweeted out a previously held belief, with no evidence to back it up, that Barack Obama and his administration wiretapped his office in Trump Tower prior to the election.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump wrote, and followed up with, “Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!”

That wasn’t all. The Donald then tried to compare this fake scandal with Richard Nixon and Watergate. “I'd bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!” Trump tweeted. “How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!”

A spokesperson for the 44th president called Trump’s most recent cockamamy story a complete falsehood.

"A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice," Kevin Lewis said in a statement. "As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any US citizen. Any suggestion otherwise is simply false."

Of course Twitter had a field day with the wiretapping story. Check out Donald Trump’s alt-facts as well as reaction to it below.
