Jay Z's Barneys Collection Raises $1 Million for His Foundation
He might have received a lot of criticism for sticking to his partnership with Barneys New York after the retailer was accused of "shop and frisk" by several Black customers, but Jay Z was not about to let that money go so easily. According to the New York Daily News, the rapper's holiday collection brought in approximately $1 million in sales and its money that will be going towards his charity, the Shawn Carter Foundation.
Jay Z initially planned to donate 25 percent to the organization, but after the controversy surrounding Barneys, he decided to give away all proceeds from the collection. With luxury items like 18-karat gold double rings, leather backpacks, $70 T-shirts and an alligator skin watch that retailed for $33,900, you can see how the money quickly rolled in.
The Shawn Carter Foundation provides college scholarships for underprivileged youth.
