Charlie Murphy’s Brothers in Comedy Lay Him to Rest

The comedian's closest friends and family said their final goodbyes.

Charlie Murphy's friends and family said farewell for the last time during the late comedian's funeral service in New Jersey on Wednesday.

One week after Murphy's passing, some of his closest comedy peers gathered to pay their respects, taking to social media to share the moment with his fans.

Among the guests were Dave ChappelleGeorge LopezEddie GriffinAffion CrockettDonnell Rawlings and Cedric the Entertainer, who took to Instagram to share a photo of them all standing together to celebrate their friend's life.

Charlie Murphy died on April 12 in a New York City hospital after an ongoing battle with leukemia. His death came as a surprise to many as it was not publicly known that he was so severely ill.

His family shared a statement a few hours after the announcement, thanking his fans for their ongoing support and condolences.

"Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle, and friend Charlie," the statement read. "Charlie filled our family with love and laughter, and there won't be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers."

  • Director and producer Deon Taylor also shared a heartfelt message about the comedian on Instagram with a photo detailing the memorial service.

  • Another of his comedy peers, George Lopez, posted a photo with Dave Chappelle and fellow stand-up comedian Bill Burr from the service.

  • Charlie Murphy's cousin, producer Ray Murphy Jr., also paid his respects and thanked the comedians for their support throughout this tough time for their family.
