The Cast Of 'Dear White People' Had Very Strong Reactions To Donald Glover’s 'This Is America'

Would this video fly on their campus?

It goes without saying, at this point, that Childish Gambino's latest music visual for his single "This Is America" has taken on a life of its own, bringing awareness to several hot-button issues in the country.

The song, which has gone on to top the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, has proven to be quite the conversation piece across the board, and the latest to weigh in is the cast of the popular Netflix series Dear White People.

Speaking with BET.com, the cast of the pro-Black series shared their honest thoughts on the polarizing and politically charged visual commentary.

"Brilliant," Brandon P. Bell, who plays Troy Fairbanks on the show, said. "Timely. Needed to watch it more than once just to even really appreciate all of it. It was dope. Really dope."

Antoinette Robertson, who stars as Coco Conners, added that she noticed the "subtle undertones" that were present throughout the busy clip.

"We're talking about gun violence and you see the racial tensions and also the minstrelsy of the dancing," she added.

DeRon Horton, who plays Lionel Higgins, explained that while he is yet to see the music video in full himself, he "needs to sit and watch it" and is aware that it's shaken the internet in a major way.

Adding some in-depth commentary on the viral clip, Ashley Blaine Featherson, who plays Joelle Brooks, added that "it was weird," before explaining just why she used that specific term.

"Even though the imagery was very difficult, I found myself being into it," she said. "It didn't sadden me, it fired me up, to be completely honest. It was powerful."

Watch them and the rest of the cast talk about how, like Gambino's polarizing video, their show tackles race head-on and "puts it right in your face," unapologetically, in the video, above.
