Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent And More React To Pop Smoke’s Death

The rising Brooklyn rap star was only 20 years old and already made a huge name for himself among hip-hop.

The hip-hop community is mourning the devastating loss of up-and-coming Brooklyn-bred rapper Pop Smoke following tragic news that he was shot and killed at a home in Hollywood Hills on Wednesday morning (Feb. 19).

  • According to TMZ, Pop Smoke lost his life in what appears to be a home invasion. Local news outlet ABC 7 further reports that police went to the residence in response to a call that came in from an unidentified person on the East Coast who was a friend of someone present at the time of the incident. First responders arrived at the Hollywood Hills home where they found the rapper critically wounded from multiple gunshot wounds. Pop Smoke was rushed to a Cedars Sinai hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

  • Thus far, no suspects have been apprehended by the authorities. The television station further reports several people were questioned at the scene but later released. The police have not yet said whether it was a targeted or random attack, however, officials suspect his death may be gang-related, according to ABC 7. 

     

  • Pop Smoke was 20 years old. He was on the cusp of his breakthrough moment after the rise of his single, “Welcome to the Party,” from his debut mixtape, Meet the Woo, which was he later dropped a remix for featuring rap empress Nicki Minaj. Most recently, Pop Smoke had just released his second mixtape, Meet the Woo 2, which was well-received by fans and critics alike. 

    A number of rap’s luminaries, celebrities and fans of the rapper have taken to social media to express their grief and disbelief while offering prayers to Pop Smoke’s family and loved ones.
