Chrisette Michele Shares Favorite Fashion Brands and Style Inspirations

The singer was drawn to Audrey Hepburn's androgyny and Grace Jones' fade.

Chrisette Michele might be a self-described tough chick, but she also knows how to cater to her feminine side as well. In her interview with StyleBlazer, the singer dished on her favorite brands, what inspired her short do and how old Hollywood influenced her style.

"I'm a really tough girl. I like female things, I love nail polish, I love lipstick, I love to play with my hair when I do have hair. Makeup, I just have tons of it," Michele said. "I have a room dedicated to shoes and stilettos, but Audrey [Hepburn] mastered androgyny in a type of way that said I'm as powerful as any man. She went around the world and fed people, took care of people. She was a humanitarian, a philanthropist, but she was still feminine and I loved that about her. So I always since I was younger tried to capture that balance between androgyny and old Hollywood."

During her travels through Europe and "chocolate cities" like Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Michele became drawn to the shaped afros she saw on others and decided to add her own little twist to a well-known mane.

"I got to see a lot of the new natural movement up close and personal from London to D.C. and I saw a lot of shapes," she said. "People were shaping their fros as opposed to just wearing it out so I fell in love with the Grace Jones fade, slapped a part in the middle of it to give it some hip hop, and put on some red lipstick."

Michele also shared her favorite fashion brands, raved about her new-found love of platforms and expressed her appreciation for companies that make great style accessible.

"I think everybody is all about platform shoes right now and I think that's so much fun to be as tall as possible every single day so my favorite shoe designer right now is Guiseppe Zanotti. I think they've mastered that platform that's still comfortable. It's really fun to have girls with all different types of money to be able to feel like they have on the coolest outfits so I love what Topshop has done to make everybody feel like fashion is accessible," she said, adding that the brand will be selling gowns worn at the Met Gala to the public this September.
