Box Office: Star Wars Crosses $1 Billion at the Speed of Light
The slayage of Star Wars: The Force Awakens continued into Christmas weekend, as it managed to cross the $1 billion mark globally, making it the fastest selling film in history.
Continuing its record-setting spree, the John Boyega-led film raked in $153.5 million domestically, becoming the biggest Christmas release and the best second weekend for a film. The Force Awakens, domestically, has grossed a staggering $544.6 million, crossing the $1 billion mark in just 12 days, crushing the previous record holder, Jurassic World, by one day less.
Another film that surprisingly failed to make an impact, however, was the Will Smith NFL drama Concussion, which nabbed $11 million across all 2,841 locations it premiered. Seeing as the film had a $25 million budget, the first-week numbers were disappointing, but Smith's performance was praised across the board, regardless.
Other films that made some sort of impact on Christmas weekend were Sisters ($37.2 million), The Hateful Eight ($4.6 million) and Point Break ($10.2 million).
