Quanell X Says Derion Vence Confessed To Dumping Missing 4-Year-Old Maleah Davis' Body In Arkansas
Nearly a month after 4-year-old Maleah Davis was reported missing in Houston, Derion Vence, the only suspect in the case, admitted to dumping the girl’s body in Arkansas, according to local activist Quanell X.
On May 31, Quanell X spoke to reporters at a Houston parking lot and said he met with Vence earlier in the day. According to Quanell, Vence said Maleah is dead and her body was dumped in Arkansas.
"All I can say is he told me it was an accident, and that she is dead and where he dumped her body," Quanell said.
“And where is that?” one reporter asked.
“It’s in Arkansas,” Quanell answered.
Vence initially told police Maleah was abducted by three men on May 3 while they were driving to the airport to pick up her mother, Brittany Bowens, who was returning from her father’s funeral in Massachusetts.
Quanell explained Vence, who is Bowens’ ex-fiancé, was feeling “overwhelmed.”
"He felt like he was just totally overwhelmed, because Brittany wasn't being the mother she should be being," Quanell said Vence told him.
In addition to meeting with reporters, Quanell also met with Texas EquuSearch and the Houston Police Department to discuss what Vence allegedly told him.
While speaking with reporters, Quanell said Vence was specific about the "distance" of the body's location and the “time” it was dropped.
"He said he pulled over in Arkansas, got out of the car, walked off the side of the road, and dumped her body off the side of the road," Quanell told reporters.
Quanell also said Vence indicated Maleah’s body was dumped "early on," possibly after she was first reported missing.
When reporters asked Quanell if he believes Vence’s account is truthful, he responded: "I think it's the truth. I don't think he was lying to me. I think he was telling the truth. Many men have confessed to this type of crime.”
Tim Miller of Texas EquuSearch confirmed to reporters the details of Vence’s account are credible enough to begin a new search in Arkansas.
"I think it's true enough that I have an airplane lined up at 3 p.m. to fly a detective, and several officers to go up there and go ahead and start the search," Miller told reporters.
Currently, Vence is in jail, only facing a charge of tampering with evidence, namely a corpse. Although Houston police officials have not confirmed Vence’s story, they have indicated that they believe Maleah is no longer alive.
Shortly after Maleah was reported missing, Quanell X became the spokesperson for Bowens, appearing alongside her in several interviews.
However, Quanell and Bowens recently revealed he is no longer her representative.
