Rihanna Debuts New Song ‘Lift Me Up’ From ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Soundtrack

The song marks the singer's return since her 2016 album ‘Anti.’

Rihanna has officially returned to the music industry with new music in support of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

At midnight on Friday (Oct. 28) the nine-time Grammy Award winner dropped her new song “Lift Me Up” marking her first solo music track since her 2016 album Anti.

"Lift me up/Hold me down/Keep me close/Safe and sound," Rihanna sings in the chorus.

The song serves as a tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who died of colon cancer in August 2020 at 43.

“After speaking with Ryan [Coogler] and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I've lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them,” said singer Tems, who co-wrote the track with Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson and director Ryan Coogler, said in a press release, PEOPLE notes.

Adding, “Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premieres in theaters nationwide on Nov. 11 and stars
