‘Tyler Perry’s Sistas:’ Is it Time to Jump Gary or Nah?
If you watched last week’s episode of ‘Tyler Perry’s Sistas,’ on BET, then you’ve seen yet another “WTF, Gary!” moment and are probably wondering why he is still being allowed to live a life of villainy.
You know, had it been any other crew of women on TV, he would have been effectively dealt with by now. Seriously, Khadijah, Regine, Max, and Sinclair, or Joan, Toni, Maya, and Lynn, and even Issa, Molly, Kelli, and Tiffany, would have gotten Gary up and out of there.
Sure, Fatima has proven to be pretty crafty, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s related to Madam DeVille, but what goes on inside Andi’s head? Also, what goes on inside Penelope’s head? Don't say it’s pregnancy brain! Why would anyone go through what Gary has put both Andi and Penelope through and still go back to him?
The answer is that some people really do believe that people can be redeemed. Obviously, these characters are fictional, but there are also people in real life who are optimists at heart and believe that sociopaths only exist in “To Catch a Predator." So far, that’s all we’ve seen from Gary.
Chido Nwokocha, the man who has been playing Gary for the past several seasons, thinks it’s not too late for his character to change his wicked ways.
“He’s not beyond redemption,” Nwokocha explained to . “My hope is that in the next season or two, we’ll get to watch him evolve into a better man. Maybe by season six, fans will say, ‘I like Gary. He’s come a long way. Look at Zac. That brother has had an amazing come-up."
Granted, Nwokocha provided that quote to TVLine last January. Now that we’re in season seven, a year later, the clock is quickly ticking for something good to come from this man. Then again, is that even what we want? Is it that Gary’s villainous deeds are so fantastic that we like watching the toxicity for entertainment?
Ultimately, it’s up to the writer (*coughs* Mr. Perry) to decide Gary’s fate, but fans are tired. There is no amount of forgiveness in the world for all that Gary has done, so why are these two women (smart in just about every other capacity of life) still down to deal with his bull?
We have no idea what’s in store for this week’s episode, given that Penny caught Gary in a “compromising position” with Andi’s undies, but it’s high time Andi and her girls jump him. It’s true that Zac had a redemption arc, but he was never this filthy.
Look, we don’t advocate violence by any means, but at some point, when people go so low, you gotta raise that foot so high and stomp them to hell. It’s time for Gary to go home. Or, are you someone who wants to see Gary be better and do better?
What do you think? Is it too late for Gary to turn over a new leaf? Let us know!
