Lil Tay Denies Death Rumors, Claims Account Was Hacked
Social media star Lil Tay is very much alive after being reported dead earlier this week.
In a statement released to TMZ on Thursday (Aug. 10), the 14-year-old rapper claimed that her Instagram account was hacked when the since-deleted post about her death went public.
The Canadian internet sensation told the publication, “I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive. But I’m completely heartbroken and struggling to even find the right words to say.”

She added, “It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones, all while trying to sort out this mess.”
Lil Tay alleged that her social media account “was compromised by a 3rd party” and was “used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong.” She added, “My legal name is Tay Tian, not ‘Claire Hope.'”
The false statement from Lil Tay’s page read: “It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire's sudden and tragic passing.”
The statement also claimed that the rapper’s brother had also passed.
At the time, Lil Tay’s father, Christopher Hope, told the New York Post that he was “not able to give you any comment” regarding his daughter’s reported death. He later added, “I’m sorry—I can’t.”
When asked whether anyone else could confirm the news, Hope responded, “Um, no, not that I’m aware of.”
