LeBron James' Son Bronny Has Cardiac Arrest During Workout At USC
Bronny James, the oldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest at a basketball practice on Monday and is in stable condition, CBS Sports reports.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson released a statement on behalf of the family to give an update on Bronny’s health status.
“Yesterday while practicing, Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. The medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU,” the statement read. “We ask for respect and privacy for the James family, and we will update the media when there is more information. LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes."
USC declined to comment due to student privacy policies, according to CBS News.
A four-star recruit after a stellar career at Sierra Canyon in Los Angeles, he signed on to join the USC Trojans which has several top-five players in its incoming recruiting class.
As a senior, Bronny averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals a game.
Currently, Bronny is the No. 27 overall player in the Class of 2023 according to 247Sports.
In a tweet, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who also suffered a cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game last season against the Cincinnati Bengals, expressed his support for Bronny.
Prayers to Bronny & The James family as well,” Hamlin wrote. “Here for you guys just like you have been for me my entire process.”
Bronny is the second player from USC to have a cardiac arrest in the last year. Vincent Iwuchukwu, a five-star center who was one the most heavily recruited high school players last year, suffered cardiac arrest in July 2022. After being hospitalized for several days, he eventually played in 14 games at USC after his recovery.
Bronny was scheduled to make his highly anticipated collegiate debut with USC at an overseas exhibition tour in Croatia and Greece.
