Bun B Releases Hip Hop Coloring and Activity Book
If you're a hip hop fan that still enjoys sitting down with a pack of crayons from time to time, we've found the book for you. Rapper Bun B and writer-illustrator Shea Serrano have teamed up to release Bun B's Rap Coloring and Activity Book with illustrations of about 40 rappers with must-have accessories like hats, watches, $100 bills and boom boxes.
Activities featured inside include a slang word search, a maze to help Chamillionaire avoid the cops, and a true-false quiz that challenges your knowledge of Common's track "The Questions." Some "educational" influences also appear, such as learning how to draw Ludacris' face and a chance to recreate Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' safe-sex fashion statement of wearing a condom over her left eyeglass. Queen Latifah, Wiz Khalifa, Drake, LL Cool J and Questlove are among the other artists who appear in the pages.
Some might question why some big names were left out while other newbies in the game were included. Turns out that every artist had to give permission before their image was illustrated for the project and some weren't on board with the idea.
"Well, there was one rapper who didn't get it," Bun B explained. "I won't name him, there's no reason to name him. He's a good friend of mine, we've known each other for years and we've recorded together but … he just didn't get it. He couldn't grasp the concept and didn't want to be a part of it. Which is perfectly fine with me. His thought was, I'm not gonna do it; it doesn't matter who's asking. But he did his verse for me, and I'd rather have his verse over this picture from him, any given day."
But before you buy it for your pint-size rap fans, note that the book is intended for adults.
"Kids shouldn't listen to rap music and definitely shouldn't listen to the rappers that we [include]…If it lands in a kid's lap, then cool; he's going to like it…but we're kind of making this for rap fans," Serrano said.
