Box Office: Twilight Takes Huge Bite
It was a good weekend for Bella and her boys. The latest installment of the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn, scored a massive $283.5 million at the worldwide box office this weekend, according to the Hollywood Reporter, proving that many people around the world are teenage girls at heart.
The pic earned $139.5 million in the U.S. alone, impressive but not quite enough to beat the last Twilight film, New Moon, which opened to $142.8 million domestically. Still, Breaking Dawn was the fifth largest opening ever at the box office. Not bad for a bunch of lovesick vampires.
In less impressive news, Warner Bros.' kid-focused Happy Feet Two had, well, two left feet. The animated flick took just $22 million, which is quite low for a family-friendly film and just over half of what the original Happy Feet opened to ($41.5 million). The future doesn't look good for the penguin-starring film. It will face tough competition from an avalanche of family films opening next week, including The Muppets, Hugo and Arthur Christmas.
