Your Jaw Will Drop At How Much Steph Curry Resigned For Becoming The Highest Paid Baller of All-Time
Stephen Curry is cashing in his two MVP Awards and recent NBA Finals victory for a major payday with his current team.
The Golden State Warriors point guard has reportedly agreed to a five-year, $201 million extension, making the deal the richest in league history, according to ESPN.
Curry is the first NBA star to sign a so-called “supermax contract,” which is defined as a deal with earnings crossing the $200 million threshold. Eventually, it’ll become the norm for the NBA’s biggest superstars.
Steph’s contract will reportedly be finalized once the free-agency moratorium ends on Thursday, GS general manager Rob Myers says.
LeBron James, whose Cleveland Cavaliers faced off against the Warriors in the 2017 NBA Finals, even chimed in and congratulated Steph Curry on his historical new deal.
“Congrats @StephenCurry30!!” he tweeted shortly after hearing the news.
Curry was technically an unrestricted free agent, but there was little doubt that he would remain with the team that drafted him. Golden State owner Joe Lacob made it clear after his team won The Finals that he’d do everything to have Curry remain a Warrior.
"We're going to do whatever it takes to keep Steph here and happy," he told the Bay Area News Group. "And I know he wants to be here and we want him here. So I do not anticipate any issues with him staying."
The 29-year-old hold a career average of 22.8 points, 6.8 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game over his eight seasons.
