FBI Searches for Suspect in Explosion Near Colorado NAACP Office
The FBI is searching for a suspect involved in an explosion Tuesday morning near the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP in Colorado that left the side of its building charred, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Authorities are looking for a white male in his 40s, who is balding. They believe he may be driving a 2000 or older model white pickup truck that has a missing or covered license plate.
No one was hurt in the incident. The FBI is investigating whether this was a hate crime.
Two volunteers in the offices at the time of the explosion said they heard a loud boom that knocked items off of a wall, the chapter president Henry Allen Jr. told the Gazette. When they looked outside of a window, they described seeing a gas container that appeared to be rigged with an explosive device.
Witnesses who live and own businesses near the area described hearing the explosion and said it was strong enough to knock items down, the Gazette reports.
"The NAACP looks forward to a full and thorough investigation into this matter by federal agents and local law enforcement," the national office said in a statement Tuesday.
