Here's What Young Thug Has to Say About His Name Change
Over the past weekend, Young Thug made headlines when word got out that the rapper would apparently be going by a new name from now on.
The name in question, No My Name Is Jeffrey, feels like some sort of marketing stunt, as his next mixtape is suspiciously titled Jeffrey. Thugger then appeared on Beats 1 radio for a sit down with Travis Scott to talk about just how serious he is about his name change — but with one catch, of course.
According to the rapper, he will change his name for one week only unless he sells 100,000 copies of his new project.
"I’m Jeffery for one f**king week. If I don’t sell 100,000 copies,” Young Thug said candidly during the radio interview, with Scott jumping in to add, “Let that be known. Let that be stated. We goin’ for 100,000 the first week. I’m doing my verse tonight.”
The Artist Formerly Known as Young Thug then went on to allude that he’ll hold releasing his project another “six hours,” hinting that the project will be available sooner rather than later, but that he'll make time to get a guest feature from Scott. Young Thug's possible name change appears to be the rapper’s latest effort to rebrand himself as 2016 continues to unfold.
