Al Sharpton to Lead Harlem Anti-Violence Rally Today
The Rev. Al Sharpton will be leading an anti-violence rally today in Harlem to encourage the rest of the country to adopt the New York SAFE (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) ACT.
The SAFE ACT, which was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in January, keeps guns out of the hands of convicted felons and those who are mentally ill.
The event will also highlight recent police shootings, including that of Kimani Gray and Ramarley Graham, a Bronx teen who was killed last year.
Singer Tony Bennett and a coalition of New York-based organizations and former law enforcement members from Newtown, Connecticut, will also be participating in the rally.
The rally will start on 124th Street near Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard at 4:30 p.m.
