No one tells stories about complex women better than Shonda Rhimes. Dove, wisely, has tapped her as creative director of the brand's new Real Beauty Productions. In her debut content for Dove, three women tell their stories of how their personal experiences have influenced their perceptions of beauty.

In March, the studio requested stories of women who "expand the definition of beauty." Several months and nearly 4,000 submissions later, Rhimes and Dove have released three deeply poignant short films about beauty in resilience, all about women who Rhimes handpicked from the submissions. 

"Part of why I chose them was not just the idea that they represent different women, but in a weird way they all have in common this absolute strength and confidence in being who they are. Those are the women I think are role models and I think are interesting," Rhimes said. "Women who teach women to define their beauty for themselves."
