Minnesota Vikings Release Donovan McNabb

The Minnesota Vikings waived 13-year veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb Thursday.

Donovan McNabb is no longer a Minnesota Viking. The team waived the 13-year veteran quarterback Thursday in a move that has been described as mutual.

The waiver brings an end to a disappointing relationship after just 11 games. McNabb hasn't played since Oct. 16 when he was benched by first-year head coach Leslie Frazier in favor of rookie Christian Ponder.

"This was the best decision for both parties," Frazier told the Associated Press. "He was a great player and has been a great player for our league for a long, long time. Have a lot of affection and love for Donovan."

But McNabb apparently believes he can still start in the NFL, which likely means the parting is mutual. Now that he's unattached, a few teams in need of a quarterback — including Chicago and Houston — could be interested.

McNabb, who spent one inconsistent season with the Washington Redskins last year, was just 1-5 with the Vikings before the change was made.
