CrowdStrike Global Tech Outage: Flights Grounded, Companies Disrupted

CrowdStrike CEO warns some systems may take hours to restore, while others face longer delays. Major sectors impacted include airlines, banks, and media outlets.

A major tech outage on Friday caused flights to be grounded, banks to go offline, and media outlets to stop broadcasting, affecting companies and services worldwide. This highlighted our reliance on software from a few providers. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike stated that the outage was not due to a security incident or cyberattack, according to CBS News.

Some systems can be fixed and back up immediately, but for others, it "could be hours, could be a bit longer."

"We're deeply sorry for the impact we've caused to customers, to travelers, to anyone impacted by this, including our company," Kurtz said during an interview on The Today Show on Friday.

As the outage spread, CrowdStrike's stock took a nosedive, dropping more than 13 percent. In addition to flights being grounded, 9-1-1 systems across the country have been impacted.
