Pharrell, Big Daddy Kane, André Leon Talley Star in Fresh Dressed

New documentary premiering at Sundance explores hip hop fashion.

Hip hop and fashion collide once again in the new CNN Films production Fresh Dressed. Directed by Sacha Jenkins, the documentary chronicles the evolution of "fresh" style and rappers' fashion transformation from three-piece suits to casual chic.

"Back in the day, if you find any old Coldcrush flyers, you'll see that those cats used to dress up. They would get suited for a lot of their events," Big Daddy Kane said in an exclusive clip from the doc. "I mean, Armani suits. You know, gators and mink coats [dropping] to the floor. However, though, because of hip hop being that new form of music... basically, everybody that was accustomed to wearing suits just started dumbing it down to just straight B-boy."

Dubbed the "rewrite the rules" vibe in the film, this sudden switch in hip hop fashion was one that resonated more with the young audience, and launched the hip hop subculture from South Bronx.

The colorful and expressive film also features in-depth interviews with familiar faces in the worlds of hip hop, fashion and even sports. Some of these include Pharrell Williams, André Leon Talley and NFL linebacker Carl Banks.

Fresh Dressed debuts on Jan. 24 at Sundance 2015. Check out an exclusive trailer below:
