Bodycam Footage of Fatal Police Shooting of 4-year-old Boy and Man Holding Him Hostage Released

Police were responding to a domestic violence call in Illinois and shot Terrell Marshawn Miller and his mother’s boyfriend.

The body camera footage of the March 16 police shooting that killed an Illinois man and the 4-year-old boy he was holding hostage was released on Monday (July 28) after a special prosecutor said he had found no basis to charge the officers involved, according to WGEM.

Lt. Nick Goc and Officer Korri Cameron were placed on leave.

The shooting happened after multiple domestic violence calls were made about an apartment in Macomb after 10 p.m. One caller said they believed they heard gunshots. According to the body camera footage, officers found blood on the wall of the building's stairwell. They knocked on the apartment's door and ordered the occupants to open up, police said.

After the officers heard a woman screaming for help and saying, "he's stabbing me," they forced themselves into the apartment. The woman is seen in the video running into a living room area. She tells the officers that her son is in another room, the video shows. The child is heard screaming. "The officer orders the female with injuries out of the home to safety," police narrated in the video. "What happens next transpires in a matter of seconds."

The attacker was naked and holding a knife in his left hand. He dashed into a room and reappeared a few seconds later with a second knife and holding the child hostage.

According to NBC News, family members identified the child who was killed as Terrell Marshawn Miller. His mother, Keianna Miller, remembered him as a "smart" and "amazing" child who loved Spider-Man. "He was my pride and joy," she said. "I know if he would have had a chance to grow up, he would have changed this world."
