Simone Biles may be look like America's sweetheart when she executes a nearly perfect routine in gymnastics; however, the Olympian recently had to remind people that she is not afraid to check someone for their racism, even if that person is a USA gymnastics executive. 

On Twitter, Biles slammed the interim president and CEO of USA Gymnastics, Mary Bono, for tweeting a photo of herself covering a Nike logo on her shoes, which was interpreted as an attack on Nike after they made former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick the face of their campaign.

Bono, who is a former GOP congresswoman from California, posted the photo tweet last month of her blacking out the Nike logo on her golf shoes. Although Bono deleted the tweet, screenshots were still posted to Twitter.

“Playing in a charity golf tournament raising money for our nation’s Special Forces operators and their families. Unfortunately had these shoes in my bag,” Bono wrote referring to her Nike shoes.”

“Luckily I had a marker in my bag too,” she tweeted along with a photo of herself darkening the white logo.

Biles responded Saturday to Bono with her own tweet: “Mouth drop. Don’t worry, it’s not like we needed a smarter USA Gymnastics president or any sponsors or anything.”

Biles, who won four gold medals and a bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, had just been chosen the previous day for Team USA for the upcoming World Championships in Qatar. Biles is not only considered one of the most talented female gymnasts in the world, but she is also sponsored by Nike.

Bono apologized late Saturday.

“I regret the post and I respect everyone’s views and fundamental right to express them,” she said on her Twitter account and in a statement issued by the sports organization.

“This in no way reflects how I will approach my position at USA Gymnastics. I will do everything I can to help change the culture and to work with the entire community to build an open, safe and positive environment.”
