Millennial Love Stories: The Biggest Things We learned From The Cook's Relationship
With undergrad studies out of the way, you would think that life would slow down for Braxton and Chaya after college, where they met in 2012 at a ‘90s party at Columbia University. But since then, things have seemingly gotten more hectic for the couple who is now married with their first child—August Jay Wright— named after famous playwright August Wilson.
In this episode of Millennial Love Stories, that couple shares their tips for finding balance.
It Takes A Village:
“My twin sister lives twenty minutes away. So, one night we did a date night, and we just put him (August) down for bed, and then we were like, ‘Ok, cool. We know we have a few hours before we know he wakes up for a feed’. So, she and her husband came over to watch the baby monitor. We went out for a date night, and so it definitely helps to kind of have a village,” says Chaya.
Be Present:
"August has taught me to really, [...] enjoy the moment. But also, just turning things that used to be annoyances or grievances I would have, making me appreciate and find the beauty in everything,” says Braxton.
“I would say for me, what August has taught me just to be present at what I’m doing in any given day and time,” says Chaya. “It’s like gosh, this is so hard. But if I just kind of step back and say, ‘Ok, right now he’s awake. And I’m just going to play with him, and I’m going to enjoy this.’ That time together becomes so much easier.”
