Wal-Mart Finally Settles With Tracy Morgan
Tracy Morgan's life was turned upside down when his limo van was hit by a Wal-Mart delivery truck last June. The comedian, who was on his way back from a gig in Atlantic City when the accident took place, lost his close friend James McNair in the crash and also suffered multiple serious injuries. Now, he is one step closer to putting the tragedy behind him.
Morgan has settled a lawsuit with Wal-Mart after holding the mega-retailer responsible for what happened on the New Jersey turnpike that night. According to Morgan's attorney, the driver of the truck, a Wal-Mart employee, had been operating the vehicle after being awake for 24 hours at a stretch.
The suit got ugly when attorney's for Wal-Mart attempted to blame Morgan and his fellow passengers for their own injuries, claiming they weren't properly harnessed into their seat belts. The strategy backfired, at least in the court of public opinion.
Morgan has been on a slow but steady journey to recovery since he was hospitalized in critical condition after the crash. Earlier this year, he was spotted in good spirits while walking with a cane, but was not well enough to participate in Saturday Night Live's special 40th anniversary episode in March.
Despite rumors of a $10 million settlement, details are being kept confidential, but attorneys confirmed that Wal-Mart also reached a settlement with the children of James McNair, Morgan's friend who died in the crash.
