TLC Gets Music Biopic Treatment
The true Hollywood crazy, sexy, cool life story of TLC is headed to a television near you.
Billboard is reporting that VH1 is producing a scripted made-for-TV movie about the musical journey of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
The still untitled film will span TLC’s rise to fame, career highs and how they became the most successful female group in history. And it will also chronicle the trio’s lows — Lopes burning down the house of her former boyfriend NFL star Andre Rison, the group’s financial bankruptcy woes and Lopes’s accidental car death in 2002.
In a statement Thomas said, "The reality of this brings me to tears because I am seeing one of my dreams come to life. I always felt our story had to be told."
Casting for the lead roles and a release date have yet to be announced, but Thomas and Watkins will both serve as executive producers and consultants on the film.
This isn't TLC's founding members' first foray into television. In 2005, Watkins and Thomas starred in the reality competition show R U the Girl. And for two seasons Thomas was looking for love as the star of her own VH1 reality show, What Chilli Wants.
But musically, Watkins, Thomas and Lopes are best known for their energetic and infectious 1991 debut, Oooooooh... On the TLC Tip and for their 1994 groundbreakingly successful follow-up album CrazySexyCool — which went on to sell more than 22 million copies.
