Racists Are Mad a Black Actress Will Play a Lead Role in Harry Potter
Harry Potter is heading to the theater and a Black woman has been cast in one of the lead roles. While the franchise's creator is beyond pleased with the choice, some racist fans are up in arms with the casting.
According to Us Magazine, actress Noma Dumezweni will play Hermione Granger in the upcoming London theatrical production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Excited about the news, J.K. Rowling, the head honcho behind the Harry Potter brand, took to Twitter to share her excitement and subtly shut down any racist haters.
Despite J.K. Rowling's obvious approval, some Harry Potter die-hards weren't here for Noma playing the lead female role, which Rowling made sure to clarify was never race-specific in the books.
Even Noma caught wind of the backlash and took to Twitter to express her confusion with the whole situation. Regardless, she's clearly #winning.
The play will focus on the grown-up lives of the three central characters of the series, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, as they work their way into adulthood at the wild Ministry of Magic.
The play will open on July 30, 2016, at the Palace Theatre in London.
