Mahershala Ali Will Bring His #BlackExcellence To A Struggling TV Show
Mahershala Ali is perfect at nearly everything he does, whether it's eating hamburgers or giving epic speeches. The man went from a standout supporting actor on House of Cards to an Oscar winner in record time. Now he's landed a new gig that will only further solidify his appeal in Hollywood — and give fans of a struggling franchise some hope.
According to Deadline.com, Ali landed the lead role in HBO's True Detective for the upcoming third season. HBO president Casey Bloys told Deadline.com, "Nic [Pizzolatto] has written truly remarkable scripts. With his ambitious vision and Mahershala Ali and Jeremy Saulnier aboard, we are excited to embark on the next installment of True Detective.”
The show was a huge hit in season one and gave Matthew McConaughey's career a resurgence. However, season two was a flop with critics and fans. A breath of new life from Ali just might save the show.
