Known for his roles in “Selma,” “Moonlight,” and “American Horror Story,” Hollins is now making waves with his latest project, “Exhibiting Forgiveness,” directed by Titus Kaphar.
Holland emphasized the importance of creating work that resonates deeply with audiences. “I’m all about doing work that has impact, especially for our people,” he stated, highlighting the significance of storytelling that transcends personal narratives to connect with diverse audiences. This commitment to impactful storytelling was evident when “Exhibiting Forgiveness” premiered in Holland's hometown in Alabama, drawing an unexpected crowd of 1,200 people from various backgrounds. The film’s ability to engage such a wide audience was a testament to its universal themes and powerful storytelling.
The actor also discussed the meticulous background work involved in character development, which he finds both challenging and rewarding. “Creating the character’s biography and understanding or imagining what their life is, you know?” he explained. Holland expressed a pet peeve for projects that feel rushed, emphasizing the need for thoughtful development to ensure a story is “fully cooked.”
