Are You Feeling the Clippers New Look?
After a tumultuous 2013-2014 season brought on by the Donald Sterling scandal and a nightmare playoff collapse in the 2014-15 season, the Los Angeles Clippers are hitting reset.
On Wednesday, the team unveiled a new bolder logo and uniforms in a rebranding launch.
According to ESPN, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, coach Doc Rivers and several past and present Clippers players will hit more than 32 locations in LA and Southern California on Thursday to hand out T-shirts with the team's new logo.
"This is an exciting time to be a Clippers fan," Ballmer said in a statement, as reported by ESPN. "We have one of the top teams in the NBA, and now we have introduced a new look that is bold, edgy, powerful and truly representative of us turning the page and entering a brand new age."
Appearing on Conan on Wednesday night, Ballmer also spoke about completely rewriting the franchise's unkind history.
"Let's face facts, you look at the history of the Clippers, it's not a happy history," Ballmer said on Conan, as reported by ESPN. "This may have been a nutty thing, but people know who the Clippers are but people want a new Clippers. They want a happy ending to this story after this downtrodden thing with this kind of funny ruler. Let's switch it around. I bought the team so late we couldn't do much but now we're introducing the new Clippers—the new Clippers logo."
Rivers agrees: "We've got to build something here. When I took this job, that was one of the goals, and a main goal. We don't have any history. We have to build our history."
The Clippers started laying the groundwork toward revamping their their 2015-16 roster, trading Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes to land Lance Stephenson from the Charlotte Hornets.
