Gabrielle Union Joins Lion King Spin-Off as Nala
The Lion King is an intergral part of all our childhoods, and now Gabrielle Union will be part of bringing the heartwarming tale of Simba and his jungle family to a whole new generation.
The Being Mary Jane star will lend her voice to the character of Nala, Simba's childhood friend-turned-baby mother in The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, a TV spin-off of the immensely popular franchise.
The movie, a continuing of The Lion King tale, follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, as he assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. It precedes The Lion Guard TV series, premiering in early 2016 on Disney Channels and Disney Junior channels around the globe.
Union will be joined by James Earl Jones, who will reprise his popular voice role of Musafa, Simba's father. Jones, of course, lent his iconic voice to the same character in the original Lion King film. Rob Lowe will voice Simba.
