Report: Ray Rice Told Roger Goodell He Hit Wife in June
The legs on this Ray Rice domestic violence incident story just keep on running.
Four sources told ESPN’s Outside the Lines that the Baltimore Ravens running back told NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on June 16 that he punched his then-fiancée, now-wife Janay Rice in an Atlantic City, New Jersey, hotel casino elevator back on February 15.
If the sources’ claims are accurate, they contradict Goodell’s statement on CBS News earlier this week when he said that when he met with Rice and his representatives, “it was ambiguous about what actually happened.”
"Ray didn't lie to the commissioner," a source told Outside the Lines. "He told the full truth to Goodell — he made it clear he had hit her, and he told Goodell he was sorry and that it wouldn't happen again. He told the truth. This is a public lynching of Ray."
Other sources also confirm that the information of Rice punching his then-fiancée was definitely conveyed to the commissioner during their meeting.
On Wednesday, the NFL announced that it hired former director of the FBI, Robert S. Mueller III, to launch an independent investigation of the league’s handling of the disturbing Rice surveillance video. The league plans on making the results public once the investigation is completed.
