Ava DuVernay Tells Star Wars ' Racist Trolls to Shut Up in the Best Way
Tickets for the highly anticipated film Star Wars: The Force Awakens have recently gone on sale, and while some fans are hype about the film's release, other die-hards aren't happy with the film's choice of a Black lead — Black British actor John Boyega plays a Stormtrooper in the film. They're so pressed that they even created the hateful Twitter hashtag #BoycottStarWarsVII. Well, Selma director Ava DuVernay is firing back at the trolls with a hashtag of her own: #CelebrateStarWarsVII.
With the Elle cover girl putting such a positive spin on the negative hashtag, the Twitter community began to support, creating what's turning out to be a semi-movement celebrating diversity.
What's not to love about Ava? She's always uplifiting others any chance she gets. In case you missed it, check out the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens below.
