Mariah Carey Celebrates Lil Nas X's Record-Breaking Day With One Sweet Message
It’s been a record year of firsts for Lil Nas X, and the 20-year-old trapateer just topped off the halfway mark of 2019 with a historical feat that will live forever in record books.
Lil Nas’ genre-bending “Old Town Road” remix featuring country staple Billy Ray Cyrus rode the top of the charts for a record-breaking 17 weeks, which makes it the longest charting song in Billboard’s 60-year history.
His legendary coup toppled Mariah Carey’s and Boyz II Men’s jointly held title for “One Sweet Day” that only one other song, Luis Fonsi’s Justin-Bieber assisted “Despacito,” had previously matched. Lil Nas’ single now holds the sole distinction of pulling off the longest chart run ever.
In true Lil Nas fashion, he earmarked the occasion with plenty of memes, throwback videos and a shout out to his fans. He even shared a video of himself and Billy Ray in the studio putting together the first official remix.
“Last year in October, as a struggling artist starting to lose faith in what I could be, I went looking for beats on youtube,” he wrote in the caption of the post. “This song has changed my life and the way I see the world around me in less than a year. Thank you to every single person who has been apart of this journey.”
The accomplishment was made even sweeter when Mimi herself took a moment to recognize his achievement and pass Lil Nas the torch via Twitter.
“Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in music history! We've been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life,” she penned.

Lil Nas was shook by her response and called the whole thing “unreal.”
“Wowwww thank you so much mariah! you are a legend and an icon and i’m blessed to even have you acknowledging me right now! growing up to your music & now having you talk to me directly is unreal,” he gushed.
Young Kio, who produced the beat for “Old Town Road,” and Billy Ray Cyrus also took to Twitter to celebrate the momentous occasion.
Congrats to Lil Nas X!
