Jay-Z Allegedly Spoke With Travis Scott About Backing Out Of His Super Bowl Halftime Performance

However, another rapper offers his full support.

Gather 'round hip-hop heads, it's official. Pop-rock band, Maroon 5 is headlining Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta this upcoming February, and it was announced this past Thursday (Dec. 20) that their first guest performer is Houston native, Travis Scott. The "SICKO MODE" emcee has received countless backlash from fans amid the announcement and it seems his fellow rappers agree with the people.

Meek Mill's response to the news prompted one simple question: "for what?" Now, reports have surfaced the Brooklyn royalty, Jay-Z has reached out to La Flame about his decision.

  • It's no secret that Jay-Z is a supporter of Colin Kaepernick and wants Trav to follow suit

Though Hov's reps declined to comment on any specifics about this rumored conversation, we already know how he feels about the NFL and the Super Bowl, thanks to "APESH*T." He stated, "I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don't need you/Every night we in the end zone, tell the NFL we in stadiums too..."

However, the "Antidote" emcee has one supporter on his side— rapper and Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta star, Yung Joc. The "I Know You See It" emcee piggybacked off of Jermaine Dupri's sentiments about using the NFL's biggest platform to make a statement for us, by us. Joc doesn't feel Travis is obligated to do anything besides "give the best performance he can possibly give at this time in his career in front of the entire world," in spite of "the culture" feeling different.

However, Joc is keeping hope alive.

  • "I think that young man has a different thought process is gonna shock the world."

Since the initial reports of the 2019 Super Bowl surfaced, the backlash has yet to cease and many highly-requested artists like Rihanna, Mary J. Blige have declined the offer to perform. Guess we'll simply have to be patient and see how this plays out.

Watch Yung Joc divulge fully below.
