U.S. Supreme Court rules segregation on Alabama buses unconstitutional.
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down Alabama's laws that allowed segregation on public buses. The landmark decision was a result of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, in which African-Americans refused to ride public buses for more than a year in response to the arrest of civil rights luminary Rosa Parks. Parks famously refused to give up her seat in the front of a bus to a white man in 1955.
