Tracy Morgan Reveals He's Taking Ozempic to Help With Weight Loss

The comedian is the latest Hollywood celebrity to share that the drug is helping him shed pounds.

The always-candid Tracy Morgan has revealed that Ozempic is partially responsible for his new slim physique.

The 54-year-old comedian appeared on Today with Hoda & Jenna on Aug. 14 and shared that the Type-2 diabetes drug has helped him drop several pounds.

"That's how this weight got lost," he said, prompting laughter from the show hosts. "I went and got a prescription, and I got Ozempic."

He added, "I ain't letting it go!"

When Hoda Kotb questioned if he was serious about his Ozempic comments, he assured her that he was.

"I take Ozempic every Thursday," he shared. "It cuts my appetite in half. Now I only eat half a bag of Doritos."

Morgan is currently promoting his new stand-up special “Takin’ it Too Far.”  The special premieres on Max on Thursday, August 17.

According to UC Davis Health, Ozempic, known generically as semaglutide, was approved in 2017 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in adults with type 2 diabetes. Ozempic is a weekly injection that helps lower blood sugar by helping the pancreas make more insulin.

It also has the side effect of helping users lose weight by curbing their appetite.

Ozempic is not approved for weight loss. However, semaglutide is approved for weight loss under the name Wegovy. Ozempic has a smaller dose of semaglutide than Wegovy.

The drug has been called “the worst kept secret in Hollywood," with stars like Chelsea Handler, Amy Schumer, and even Elon Musk admitting to having taken it, according to NPR.

However, former child star and podcast host Raven-Symone has criticized celebrity use of the drug. She told E! News' Francesca Amiker in July, "I think it's very important we understand certain medications are made for certain people and to not take that away just for glamazon purposes."

Raven continued, "Do what you gotta do, just make sure you save the medication for the people who actually need it."
