‘The Breakfast Club’ Weekly Recap: Flame Monroe, Eboni K. Williams and More Pay A Visit
There is never a dull moment on The Breakfast Club, and it’s easy to watch on BET every weekday at 9 am ET! But if you missed any of the crew’s antics and commentary, you’re at the right place to catch weekly recaps. Follow along with DJ Envy’s and Charlamagne the God’s weekly adventures with a motley crew of guests.
“Did I see you take your daughter to the gun range?” Flame Monroe asked DJ Envy.
“I did, I took my daughter to the gun range this weekend,” replied DJ Envy.
That’s just a taste of the wild conversations on The Breakfast Club. What you missed in the first week of May was a Met Gala recap, Flame Monroe kicking it with the morning crew and bonding with DJ Envy about going to the gun range with their respective daughters. Jadakiss and Millyz discussed working with Kodak Black on Tuesday. Kym Whitley guest hosted on Wednesday and covered a range of pop culture’s hottest topics, including how Da Brat and Judy couldn’t find suitable Black sperm donors.
The Isley Brothers, Ron and Ernie, paid a visit on Thursday, and they were as smooth as ever as they discussed their decades-long career and how hip-hop has kept them relevant.
“The rappers always had respect for our work, I love it when you call me Big Poppa,” says Ernie.
The Isleys are one of the most sampled acts in hip-hop and have been featured by some of its stars. That interview was a lovely historical tidbit for the young people just discovering them.
The week concluded on Friday with Eboni K. Williams, who fought hard to defend her bus driver comments, which offended the masses, and DJ Envy also took issue.
“I’m not a bus driver, the bus drivers and the average person are what keeps the lights on at the breakfast club. They keep me booked in shows,” he said.
“Envy, you’re dead ass wrong for framing it as me s---ting on them.”
There’s more to that lengthy debate, but Envy and Eboni had a civil discourse despite a significant opinion difference. Finally, we can’t forget that the hosts of Whoreible Decisions came through, and one of them may or may not be into golden showers.
The following week, Jess Hilarious was back to co-host with DJ Envy and Charlamagne, and she came through with the mess. Charlamagne made the most random observation about her as she read a news item about how the Gap is suing Kanye West to cover the cost of unauthorized construction he made to their property in LA. According to him, she reads the news well when she’s hungover.
Monday continued with the discussion about DJ Envy vs. Rick Ross. Charlamagne tha God tells him that their beef has gone too far. Donnell Rawlings was also in the mix. On Tuesday, Congressman Jamaal Bowman gave Charlamagne a piece of his mind about his Bronx trash-talking because his theory is that the craziest people in America come from Florida and the Bronx.
“The 16th district yes includes the Bronx, and the Bronx created hip-hop so that’s the reason we’re all here so you gotta uplift the Bronx there, ” said Bowman.
Checkmate!
Bowman repped his district and the most slandered borough in New York City with the smoothest one-liner we’ve heard from a politician in The Breakfast Club’s history.
Next, actor and comedian Deon Cole brought in hump day and faced Jess Hilarious about how she hadn’t been in an Old Spice commercial with him yet. She was up for role-playing his little sister, but they chose La La Anthony for the role instead. They shared a good laugh about it, and a great point was made: Jess looks more like his little sister than La La does.
Jess also spilled the tea that Megan Thee Stallion and soccer player Romelu Lukaku, spotted holding hands at a wedding, are dating. Jess was quite giddy about this news, to Charlamagne’s chagrin.
“I don’t like how happy you are about this because I’m sure when the pictures came out with her and Pardi you were happy about that too,” said Charlamagne. “I saw everybody yesterday lusting over the brother Romelu and they so happy for Romelu and Meg, y'all did the same thing for Pardi and Meg just a little while ago, y’all need to cut it out!”
Jess brought up a good point: it seems like new boo Romelu makes Meg happy, and that matters.
We wind down with a revelation from Chloe Bailey that she and Charlamagne are likely cousins because they both have small-town South Carolina roots.
In short, you never know what you’re going to get. If you miss a day, you miss a lot, but that’s why these recaps are here.
