On the 3^rd of October in the year 1992, a young Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson exchanged vows and became united in holy matrimony. Little did the young lovers know, over the course of the next 24 years, their union and strength would inspire a single nation and the entire world. 

The couple originally met in 1989, when Michelle was assigned to be his mentor at a Chicago law firm. On their first date, the pair did something you don’t see very often these days: they spent the entire day together. Starting off with a trip to the Art Institute and finishing with a showing of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, the couple laid down the ground work to a powerful relationship.

“We clicked right away... by the end of the date it was over... I was sold,” Michelle said about their first date together.

A little more than three years later the couple married and promised each other a life filled with love and interesting moments.

As their marriage grew and matured, so did the influence of the Obama name. Eventually, it became very clear to the Obama’s that their purpose in life would be greater than anyone could have imagined.

Barack worked as a Senator until becoming one of the most revered presidents in U.S. history and Michelle was appointed the vice president for community and external affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she worked part-time until her husband was sworn into office. 

Now, the Obamas not only represent all our ideal #relationshipgoals, but they uphold the values that embody our life goals. The Obamas have shown us what it means to persevere despite any and all challenges, how to fight for what’s right even though it may be unpopular, and most important, how to unconditionally love and support your partner.

Although the Obamas time at the White House is quickly coming to an end, one thing continues to live strong: their incredible marriage.
